Look what she did!

Trena B. used some of the Ghana fabric for a new dress and it’s soooooo pretty.

You can see it here.

Trying not to have giver’s remorse….

Moving on

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the wonderful things you had to say about my friend’s dress and sympathizing with the making of clothes for others! I brought it into the office and is was waiting for her when she got in. She loves it! Note to self: if sewing for others, always pick easy fit garments that you’ve already made once!

Did you know that BWOF 5-2007-115 has 13 pattern pieces? Did you know that I managed to throw out half of the pattern pieces and the muslin they were attached to in my massive cleaning spree?

Missing: Sleeves, belt, button placket, two collar pieces, epulates, and belt loops. It’s not as bad as the time I threw away a year’s worth of disposable contacts, but still. At any rate, I just stitched up the shoulder seams to check fit.

Oy. It was everything I feared. Slightly small in the bust, major small of back fabric pooling and waaay too small in the lower thigh. (No photo because white muslin shows everything and this is a PG blog) Not major alterations, but I’m just up for some quick and easy projects right now and itching to start my fall clothes.

So, I think I’m going to hold this dress until the spring. I’ve got McCalls 5479 View A cut out. I’m using this green and brown striped upholstery fabric that I bought last year. I’ve cut my usual 12 despite the seven inches of ease around the bust. I probably could have gone with a 10, but I’m thinking late fall and chunky sweaters.

Don’t worry, I’m still going to make the BWOF 8-2007-111 cape. But, it’s got a welt pocket and I need to practice a few first. And I just want something simple to make over the weekend.
