When My Hobbies Collide

6 Aug

I obessess over sewing and am an avid collector of nail polish. Recently, a Limited Edition line from drugstore brand Milani came out called ‘Haute Couture’. Normally, I would’t pay too much attention, but there were a couple of colors that were sewing related in name.

The mint green polish with shimmer is called Dress Maker. It’s an exact copy of Chanel’s Jade — which now sells on eBay for over $100 a bottle. I actually bought a bottle of Jade when it came out. And couldn’t resist the lure of capitalism and sold it when I saw how high they were going for on ebay (IRL they match).

What’s this got to do with you? Well, I took the only two bottles at my store and would like to give one away here with a bottle of  ‘Tailor Made’. Just because I like the sewing themed names.

If you’re interested in this giveaway, just leave a comment here. I’ll draw next week.

In other bits of news, I took my Jalie Multi Sport Skirt out for a test ride on Wednesday. One of my tasks at work is running a fellowship program. We had a transportation planner come out and give us a bicycle tour of the city. Skirt worked perfectly! It was super humid and the wickaway fabric kept me totally cool. Oh, that’s the first German language church in the state behind me. They still do German language services every Sunday.

Ohhhh yes please! Funny that you post this now, I was just trying to make up my mind whether to start a new sewing project or to try a new wacky polish (dark greeny black with tiny shimmers)

  6. kira August 6, 2010 at 13:31 #

I’m interested in the nail polish giveaway.

Hi. Revlon makes a color called Minted. It looks just like the Chanel and the Milani Dressmaker. That Classic Camel is very pretty. Hmmmmm.

      • Miss Celie August 6, 2010 at 22:32 #

I have Minted also. It’s a creme but Jade and Dress Maker have a micro shimmer. But, Minted is a great option if you just want a mint green color.

That blue looks close to something I’m currently wearing, love it

  12. katyrenee August 6, 2010 at 17:08 #

  14. Amy August 6, 2010 at 17:51 #

What can I say? I’m a sucker for nail polish too…and am amused by the sewing names–so sign me up. Your Jalie bike shorts look great!

  15. Becky August 6, 2010 at 18:05 #

I’ll play… I don’t paint my nails too often (more my toes), but I’m much more prone to doing funky colors like these over boring grown-up neutrals!

  16. Esther August 6, 2010 at 18:19 #

That green is definitely gorgeous! I don’t do my fingernails, ever, but it would look great on toenails too, dontcha think? :)

  17. Mel August 6, 2010 at 20:17 #

I’d love a chance to get the nail polishes! Thank you!

  18. Cathi August 6, 2010 at 20:23 #

  21. Bernice Ramsey August 6, 2010 at 21:18 #

We share the same interests, sewing and nail polish. I also show dogs in my spare time. LOL. Love your web site and your sewing machines. Very retro.

Congrats on the successful test run of the skirt. Don’t you love it when things work as well as you’d hoped? Speaking of love – love those polishes and the chance to win them.

  25. Patricia August 7, 2010 at 10:44 #

Hi! I love the nail polish colors! Would love a chance to win. I have been following you for about a year and love your sewing tips and projects. Great work!

    Thanks!

  26. Jali August 7, 2010 at 11:04 #

Can I have a bottle of Tailor Made and Dress Maker please? Of course, you are going to have to ship these bottles to Singapore if I win, and these are not ideal shipping material. But I am writing my selfish comment anyway since these are so gorgeous.

  27. linda allen August 7, 2010 at 13:52 #

I would like to win the polish. I have been reading your blog for some time now. I love your sewing, your POLISH!!!!. I am 57, and never had a cut little figure like yours, so keep on going girl. Maybe when I worked out I came close. You look good the way you are

  28. Ruta August 7, 2010 at 14:19 #

I’d love the nail polish! I’m going to Google it to see if they sell it nearby. The names are awesome.

  30. Shannon August 8, 2010 at 11:23 #

I love nail polish! I think I’m the west coast you. I even SWF’d you and did the white nail polish with Happy Birthday when i saw it on your blog (I had just purchased it right when I stumbled on your blog) for fourth of July. I’m way behind you on nail polish collecting but I have an obscene collection compared to everyone else I know :-) my nieces love it when they come over.

PS i need to make that sport skirt. It looks great on you!

  31. Kara August 8, 2010 at 17:57 #

What pretty colors! I’d love to win those!

  32. Stacy August 8, 2010 at 20:17 #

I currently live on Guam and I have been searching for the new hues of blue polish everywhere! The polish is ALWAYS picked over before I can get to it!! I love both of these!

  33. Kathi August 8, 2010 at 23:06 #

The colors are very pretty – love the names!
    Glad your skirt worked out!

  34. O.C. August 9, 2010 at 10:19 #

    Commenting for the nail polish!

  35. Lisa August 9, 2010 at 10:50 #

Yes, please! Love those colours (and your blog!)

  36. Lindsay T August 9, 2010 at 12:21 #

Who cares about nail polish when you look so friggin’ cute in your little skirt?! Much cuter than shorts, IMO.

  37. Amber August 9, 2010 at 12:56 #

I’m Miss Boring when it comes to my nailpolish colors, so no need to enter me into the giveaway. ;) Just wanted to say that I’m glad the sport skirt is working well for you – it’s very cute!

  38. Carolyn August 9, 2010 at 15:56 #

Ooh, this is perfect timing for me for a nailpolish giveaway (in the unlikely event I win) I just went for my first manicure last weekend and have nice looking hands/nails for the first time EVER. Once my nails grow just a little longer and I can get them all even (next manicure in maybe a week or two – I’m so totally gonna be hooked!) and I’ll be ready to start using some non-neutral colours.

And nailpolishes with sewing-related names? How can one resist?

  39. Lela August 9, 2010 at 20:06 #

It’s my birthday next week (8/14)?

  40. Ann August 10, 2010 at 13:43 #

That bicycle tour sounds so fun! Lucky you! Your skirt (skort?) looks great!

  41. sueanfang August 10, 2010 at 16:19 #

I see Essie has some ‘fashion’ colours for fall too, some look like copies of Chanel colours!

  42. Maggie August 10, 2010 at 20:22 #

Count me in on the drawing.

  43. Nancy W August 11, 2010 at 23:12 #

oh, yes. Add me to the giveaway. THanks!

  44. Kathleen August 12, 2010 at 16:36 #

Add my name to the nail polish drawing! I always have polished toes but the fingers not so much. Seems like I always get them looking nice and then break a nail! Love the bike shorts – you look great!

  45. Marjie August 12, 2010 at 17:40 #

The skirt looks better than the shorts on the girl you’re with. Good for you – stylish while exercising!

  46. Karin August 15, 2010 at 06:49 #

I´ve been obsessed with long nails since my teens. I have very thin nails that I brake all the time. I have some nailpolishes in my fridge though. recently I discoveres Sally Hanssen and suddenly I have nice nails that I decide when to file down.
I only wish I was able to apply the polish as you do!!….

  47. Amy August 15, 2010 at 10:55 #

I love love love how the running skirt turned out! I am obsessed with running skirts and really would like to try my hand at making one.

That and I love the sewing related nail polish. I’m crossing my fingers that I win! :)

  48. Kathy August 15, 2010 at 17:03 #

Love theses colors, I too am a nail polisj fanatic. I especially love the fact that their names are sewing inspired, because I also love to sew.
