Ballet Recitals Beat Piano Recitals

11 Dec

Asked at the 7-Eleven on the way to recital: “Girl! Where you get your bun at? It look goooood!” I explain that it’s all my hair tucked under the hairnet. She sucks her teeth and says, ‘That’s why the color match so good.” Yes. Yes it is.

I’ve got the lining cut and sewn for the jacket. Tonight, I’m going to sew it in while watching Meet Me in Saint Louis. It’s my favorite movie to watch at the holidays. Judy Garland’s red dress at the end is A-mazing. Energy usually reserved for Saturday night was expended being entirely nervous and sweaty for a 1:30 Waltz of the Flowers. Sadly, I don’t have photos of the amazing bun I put together thanks to Phyllis‘ instructions. Let’s just say my blowdryer has never had such a workout.

You look fantastic in your ballet ensemble! Love the two-tone tutu and the tulle rose…
I’m also watching “Meet Me in St. Louis” tonight … a longtime favorite, just ask my daughter’s long-disbanded Girl Scout troop. I wonder if they still remember the song?

while watching, I actually wondered if there are movies out there for the entire family anymore. I’m no prude, but it’s such a sweet and happy film.

Thanks for sharing the picture from your ballet recital. It looks like you were really having fun!

I took ballet up until the day I left for college. Good for you. You look great and I bet the recital was wonderful. It is a beautiful, athletic dance form and it helped me walk properly again after a year of Rheumatic Fever and bed rest at age 6.

Holy smoke — who knew grown-ups could look so CUTE in tutus?!?

I would have liked to see the bun, it would be fun, I would not run, from you my hon. Ok, too much Dr Seuss. Thanks for sharing the pics, though, you guys look great.

You look wonderful in your tutu. You wanted to lose weight for this? You look better than either of the other dancers!
I love putting movies and tv I haven’t seen on the computer while I sew. Keeps me company

I finally replaced a blown out tv in my sewing room. So nice to have the background back when sewing.

I’ll leave the tutus and hairstyles to you, kid. Confession time: I was literally THROWN OUT of my ballet class after two lessons because the teacher said I was too ‘distracting’. I was all of….three years old.

HAHAHA! Yeah, Trena and I were talking and she said that there’s a huge difference between recreational ballet and professional ballet. And that it’s better I’m in recreational because ballet can be no fun if it’s too hard / serious. At three? That’s ridiculous!

Love that movie as well — I’m a big Judy Garland fan. The ballet looks fun!

No fair to relay to us the high praise received for said bun without photo of said bun!! LOL!

You really are looking more beautiful every time I see you!

My hula instructor had most of us go buy add-on pieces for performance. The recital looks great. Love your avatar!

That is one of my favorite holiday movies, as well. I haven’t put it in yet this season. You look great in the picture. Makes me want to take up dancing again.

I started reading your blog because I admire your sewing, but I had no idea you do ballet too!

I started ballet my last semester of college, took for a few years (and did a semester en pointe)- an ankle injury knocked me out, so I did 4 years of ice skating, now a hip injury has me back in ballet!

You look great in the tutu- I wish my studio had performance opportunities for adults. (I can do tap in the spring recital, but Nutcracker is kids only)

Add this post to your book, please! Great local color. And love the photo of you looking super-adorable.

RC – you look great! Seems like you had a fun time!

Love the conversation about your hair – hilarious!

Hey you’re welcome! You might want to stock up on hairnets and hair pins, CVS in particular doesn’t stock much reserve inventory. Plus they tend to be a one-time use thing since they rip. Also ballet shoes don’t last forever, I have a good Ebay source for canvas split sole shoes and they are only $12 a pair. And if your shoes get dirty (and they do, really fast) calamine lotion is just the thing for making them look better because they can’t really be washed.

    OMG – what a babe!!!
