New Page/ T’ings in the Mail / Kwik Sew Bra Pattern Giveaway

I wanted to post some new sewing bits that have come in this week. First, heaven bless Kathi R. from PatternReview.com. She remembered talking to me way back at PR Weekend Los Angeles almost four years ago about my interest in learning to sew bras. Well, she got a great deal at FIDM on laces and offered to send me some. Excellent! I really want to get better and more efficient and making underwear and this will seriously help.

To go along with that, I ordered 1/8 inch elastic from Etsy. It’s sold for ‘baby headbands’. But, I wanted it for snugging up the upper bra cups I sew and for the front lace edges of underwear. I bought some specific colors (black, brown, white) and a variety pack.

Also of that sewing genre, I have more kits from Summerset! I took photos of my laces from the Netherlands, and she dyed kits to match. My goal is to have about ten good bras in the drawer. I’m at two of my own that I’ve sewn and three RTW bras that are a little over a year old.

I’ve aslo added a low tech page at the top of the blog of lingerie sewing resources. Places to shop. I say low tech because there are just links.

Finally, now that I’ve found my bra holy grail in the Rebecca Sewy, I’m giving away these three Kwik Sew Patterns. I’ve only sewn one, back when I was all wrong about my size.

If you want them, please leave a comment here to be entered. I’ll do a drawing a week from today. If you would like to be entered an additional time, you can link back to the this post via your blog or twitter or sign up for email updates on my blog (over on the right under subscribe). Each mention gives you an additional entry, but you’ll need to post in the comments each additional links. If a winner is selected and does not respond to my email within 24 hours, Trena gets the whole lot — whether she wants them or not.

    • It would be great to have these patterns! I am a flight attendant and my goal is to avoid the dreaded security pat-down in Eastern European airports because of my underwire. (!)

  1. I’m in the process…bra-making will be my goal this summer (I’m a school teacher). I’d like to do more fitting…..
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  2. I remember when you bought all these, it was about a time when lots of people where talking on their blogs about sewing bras, even Miss Debbie (at Stitches & Seams) I never did make any, so put me into the drawing, I have been toying with the idea of trying some.

  3. I’ve been thinking about sewing bras for a few years now. Congrats on finding a pattern that fits you!

  4. I’d love to have the bra patterns. Add my name to the hopper or hat! I have only made one bra: it took so long to get a proper fit (about 8 cup muslins) that once I finally finished, I had lost all my lingerie mojo. Your bras are so lovely, I am inspired to try again.

    Thank you!

    Judy

  5. Awesome giveaway, thanks! Sign me up. I’m interested, but I think this might be a bit above my skill set.

  6. I’ve admired your sewing bravery in making bras. I’d like to try my hand at it too. Pattern 3300 looks like something I’d wear. If I can get the fit right. I’m tired of trying on 10 bras to find one that fits well, even when I’ve been measured by a dept store “fitter” to get the size right. Plus I have in issue with paying $65+ for a good bra.

  7. count me in! I’ve just started to have a go at sewing underwear and Its super hard to get hold of the stuff here! I’ve also been so blessed as to be a between cup size! Not so good for RTW x

  8. Yes, I would like to be in the give-a-way – count me in! I have made two bras (even took a bra class) but was some what disapointed, although after reading your blog about making bras I think I would like to give it another try :-)

  9. Have been inspired by all the bra-making on the internets and would love to try my hand for myself and my daughters. thanks for having this give-away!

  10. Renee, I would absolutely love to have the patterns! I plan to start sewing lingerie very soon. Thanks,

    Gail D.

  11. Count me in, please. Bras are one of the few things I’ve never sewn before, and I’d love to give these a try.

  12. I’d love to win these – just went bra shopping the other day & of course had to settle for something that will work but may not be the most comfortable… I think it’s a sure sign I need to start making my own!

  13. I would love to win these patterns. I haven’t sewn a bra yet but my goal for this year is to get into it as I find it hard to find nice rtw ones. Thanks :-)

  14. I would love to be considered for one of these patterns. These are a good style for my daughter. I have 2 of Summerset’s kits for myself (with a pattern for a fuller figure) – I still need to get them done. My old RTW are about to give out, so I have a pressing need! Blessings,
    Patti

  15. Lucky lady, look at all those gorgeous laces. I just finally found a panty pattern I like so I can understand why you’re ditching the other patterns in favor of your best one. I, on the other hand, would really like to be entered into your drawing. I’ve been thinking about buying KS 2489 for some time so I can try my hand at bra making.

  16. Put me in the hat please! I am inspired by your bras – and also by the thought of reducung the cost of my odd sized bras. It would also be wonderful to be able to have a really pretty bra (that fitted) that hadn’t cost a mortgage payment!

  17. Hey, long time reader, first time commenter, (Yes I know that’s bad). I have been thinking about making my own bras for awhile now. Even if I do not end up winning a set from you now I at least know where to look for patterns and resources, thanks to your low tech links, and the power of the internet.

    Sincerely,
    Sarah in SYR

  18. Thank you for a chance to win these! I am trying to find a comfortable bra, but am finding that I need to make them myself if I want one!

  19. But what if I *am* the winner? That sounds like some sort of universe implosion. Sigrid’s tutorials are making the whole thing look doable, and it would be nice to have some pretty bras instead of the t-shirt bras I always wear. So sign me up!

  20. Sign me up please!! I’ve been seeing articles on bra making everywhere lately and I am definitely excited to try.

  21. Lucky you! Look at all those fun packs. How nice to have some matching fabrics for the laces. I don’t need to be entered since I think I found my pattern, too… just needs some tweaking.

I’m sorry to hear about your Valentine’s dress and totally identify with buying a bunch of patterns in indecision. That would be the point where I buy new shoes and call it a day.

  22. You bet I’d like to be entered. I’ve got the pin-up girls basic pattern, which fits OK but makes me feel like I’m 95 instead of 35. :)

    Your creations have been lovely!

  23. I recently got the Bra Maker’s Manual (on CD) and two kits but haven’t gotten up the courage yet to start in! I think I’m afraid to “ruin” my kits with something that doesn’t end up fitting right. I should just dive in, shouldn’t I?

Not that I ever win anything I want – but nothing ventured, nothing gained! Please enter me in the draw.

  24. I would so love to have them. Not too many fabric stores around, I was at Joanns yesterday. Duh, they don’t stock Kwik Sew, and I went specifically for that bra pattern. My luck. So its either win it or order online.

  26. I have just begun sewing lingerie! I’d love the giveaway! PS: The red dress is lovely! Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

  27. I have been following your blog for a while now and love the progress you have made with the bras and I also love the grey coat you made.
I would really like to win one of your bras sets and want to wish everyone else who enters good luck also.

  28. Oh, I hope I’m not too late (I’m so behind on my blog reading…)

I keep obsessively stalking peoples’ bra-making posts. Maybe if I won a pattern I would quit being such a chicken and try it! :)
