Destination Shopping: Fabric Mart Road Trip (upcoming)

9 Nov

Thank you for all delightful comments on my last garment, the blue and gold silk jersey dress. I’m flattered that you took the time to comment. It’s one of my new favorites and cemented as the best dress style for me bar none.

November is the month that keeps on giving because not only was I off for Election Day, had two days home for Hurricane Sandy, but  I’m off AGAIN this Monday for Veteran’s Day.  In honor of this federal holiday, Trena and I are driving up to Fabric Mart to go shopping. I’m looking for stuff to sew for Christmas gifts and she’s going to Mecca.

Are you in the Fabric Mart area? Have the day off and want to last-minute shop? Let us know and we can meet up!  Leave a comment here or email me at missceliespants@gmail.com and we’ll coordinate. We’re planning to be there by 11:00 a.m. since it’s over an hour drive from Baltimore.

And because I don’t like pictureless posts, here are photos of two of the three project I have in progress. Both are cut out and sitting on my sewing table.

This shift dress from Burda

And, this cape from Vogue. When I started the cape during Hurricane Sandy, it was considerably warmer here. I’m not sure this will be completed this season!

My leopard print ruched dress is also done. I just need to get photos taken. Hopefully next week.

Will you take pictures please. I am in Baltimore too and would love to go to fabric mart one day and check it out, I follow them on FB and always see what I think are great fabrics, but I’m only one year into this sewing adventure and I don’t know the hand of many fabrics just yet so I am nervous to buy online. Can’t go Monday, so I’m hoping I can enjoy it vicariously through your photos. Enjoy and I love your blog, you are so talented!

I really love that burda dress, I have sewed it for spring!

Rats. I have to work on Monday — but if I did not, I would definitely drive down to meet you guys.

I ABSOLUTELY did not know they had a storefront. What an idiot. Can’t go this time but pass the area all the time. I’ll put it on my list.

I hope you finish the cape! I made the same one last month in an animal print (http://closetcasefiles.blogspot.ca/2012/10/tripping-world-capetastic.html) and it is A-MAZ-ING.Although you really need long gloves to pull it off in the colder weather….

Travel safely! A few years back I belonged to a sewing meet-up here in Philly, two of the ladies promised that if they “liked us enough” they would take us to this “secret” place they liked to go to get really inexpensive fabric…They never told us the name and the meet-up dis-banded before they decided if we were worthy! I did a little sleuthing and figured it out to be Fabric Mart, but still have not gotting there yet. Have fun! I really enjoy your blog. Dawn

Have fun visiting FM and say hi to everyone! (I hope you have a generous shopping budget.)

I am new to sewing (started in June of this year) and your blog has been such an inspiration to me. I wish I could join you on your fabric shopping spree but on Monday I will have my little one in tow and there’s no better way to cut short a shopping trip than to take along a 4 year old! LOL! Thanks for the tip on Fabric Mart though. It came just in time as I’ve grown tired of the selection at the local chain store. I live right outside of Philadelphia so this will be a nice excursion for me one day when dad has the kids. Have fun and take lots of pictures. Carmen

I wish I had the day off, but no. I have to be in my absolutely useless Developmental Psych class instead. Pthbbbt. I’d love to go. Have fun!

The burda dress is amazing. I sewed it using bargain designer fabric that I found in one of Toronto fabric stores . They have got a wide variety of fabrics that will please everyone. I recommend these shops for everyone who sews often like myself.
