FAQ

How do you sew so much!?!

Well. Sewing is my primary hobby. Just like people golf or watch football, I sew.  Truth be told, I’m also single, and don’t have children.  So, I have more free time. I also don’t clean and don’t do yard work. So, I have even more time.

Where do you buy Burda World of Fashion?

I order directly from from GLPNews. I’m also unable to loan any magazines out. It’s too stressful.

Why do you only sew from Burda?

Well, not *only*. I pay $80 a year for my subscription and want to get my money’s worth. Plus, they are always here when I’m ready to sew. Instant sewification.

How did you learn to sew?

Self taught from books and much improved with the internet.

Where can I find that notion/book?

Half.com and Ebay baby. There’s hardly a notion I have that didn’t  come from there! Unfortunatly, I’m not willing to part with any of my vintage books, magazines, or foreign notions.

What do you do IRL?

I won’t say because I may want to look for a new job someday!

Camera?

My earlier posts were point and shoot digital cameras with face recognition. I’ve now upgraded to a Pentaz DSLR. I always shoot on a tripod. I do need to invest in an external flash.

Why don’t you blog under your real name?

Cidell is my real name. My real middle name and the name many family members still refer to me as.  I do go by my first name in my day-to-day life. My mom hates it when people say Cidell isn’t not my real name, LOL.

LOL, that’s why I have time to sew, too.
I have one child and she is grown and my husband is used to being left to his own deviced.
    Cleaning, yardwork-> not so necessary.

    Hi Cidell,

I love your blog and your attitude in general. I’m a sewer and am going to go to NYC to touch real fabric in about a month! All the good fabric stores in Boston have closed… sigh….do you have recommendations for favorite fabric haunts in NY?

    Best wishes,
    Julie

PS. also love Anthropologie and will soon be knocking off their navy linen shirtdress.

    Hey Cidell,
I don’t know if this is the right spot to do this but just wanted to say that I LOVE your blog!! I have been inspired by so many of these sewing and design blogs that this summer I am going to learn how to sew. I can sew a little but just the basics (and I mean very basic). Never have I made any clothes, but am so excited to learn. I love J.crew, Ann Taylor, etc. and when I look at their dresses I think, “Wow if I could sew I don’t think that would be difficult to make.” Because I sure can’t afford to buy a 200 dollar dress. Sorry this such a long comment, all I really wanted to say was I love your blog!! Your blog and other sewing blogs have inspired me to tackle learning to sew!! Wish me luck!!

    Thanks!!,
    Kelly

I stumbled upon your site with a search for a link to Miss Celie. I love your blog. I’m teaching myself to sew *and* we both have a manicure feature. Let’s be blog buddies.

    Ms. Cidell,

Have your ever considered doing any type of sewing workshops for folks in your local commuting area?

and it must be from a Burda 2009 magazine as the picture is from december 2009.

I just need to know which issue to look for, if you feel like helping out I would be forever grateful!!

Love your stuff btw, will be sure to pop by from time to time.

    Best regards
    Nina

I just wanted to say hi. I have been looking in on your blog for a while now, and love it! I find your post so inspirational. The thought that you are self taught give me hope, and your funny “learning experiences” say perfection no but passion yes! I also want to tell you how much I like all of your extra photos, like the travel ones. Seeing how open you are in your interest, biking & dance etc.., reminds me to be open despite coming across squares, pessimist, and your general haters. Thank you, and may you continue to be the beautiful person you are!
