Hat Pattern Collection

We’ve got a long weekend coming up but my sewing to do list is short. I am so ready to clear the sewing deck:

1. Make this knit dress for the wife of a friend. He’s paying me and I promised it back in November. They are going to Belize at the end of the week so I’ve gotta get on the stick. Saturday.

2. The blasted jacket. Lining is in. Just need to handsew on the pockets, add the collar and do the whole button thing. Sunday.

3. The Weekender Bag. Need to get interfacing and new piping. Monday. I love a holiday weekend.

4. I’m going to Portland for PR Weekend! I’ve made one trip ever to the west coast and that was for last year’s PR Weekend.

So, next month, PatternReview.com is holding a new contest: Hat Making / Sewn Hats. I thought I would show some of the patterns I’ve collected over the years. I plan on entering the contest. I would love a grand hat to wear to the Preakness in May! Click on any to enlarge.

  1. So got a few hat patterns there don’t you! *LOL* And you can finish the jacket…I have faith in you…take a deep breathe…dive in there and get it done!

  2. I have to do this! I bought a Vogue hat pattern last when to go with my June Capsule Contest and never made it. I’ve got the fabric and everything …

  3. PR weekend in Portland! That’s my digs… I immediately went and found the thread on PR… which I evidently need to look at more often!

  4. I’ve been tentatively dipping my toes into hat pattern searching. I’m guessing I’ll need a few full-coverage hats, but unfortunately I’m always drawn to the tiny, perched vintage Vogue numbers instead. But there are quite a few full styles here that don’t scream “I had chemo!”* so that’s a good sign… I think the bright yellow one on Butterick 3319 is my favourite of the lot, though I love the buttoned one on the last McCalls, too. like a scoodie without the tying, ha!

*not like the lack of eyebrows won’t anyway, but hey.

  5. I’ve never made a hat before, so I can’t wait to see what you come up with! The first pattern photo (the hat with the dramatic brim) looks amazing!

  6. You are the coolest! That simplicity dress is to die for, wow…
ANYway. love your blog. Im lovin’ that hat pattern in the 02/09 BWOF!
My puppy just ate a big hole in a leather duffel, so i might salvage what’s left and make a hat. Thanks for the inspiration!

  7. I love that dress on you (coveting…coveting!) so nice that you’re willing to sew for others! I’ve got too many projects to share! I’m looking forward to meeting you at PR Weekend in PDX!

  8. I’m loving the Vogue 7918 view A with the wide-ish brim. It just screams “day at the races” to me.

  9. i am truly a hat person! more because of bad hair days than anything, but i just love hats! i can’t wait to see what you decide to do!
I have loved that dress since i first saw it on your blog! I think your chose an excellent fabric for the style and it looks great on you and very well made! I send you time blessings, so you can accomplish all your tasks this weekend!

safe travels as well for your PR weekend!

  10. Okay! I thought that I had some hat patterns! You and I have some that are alike. I LOVE the Vogue hat patterns!

  11. Cute hats. The prices on these are a riot. $.50 and $1.00. Some of the models on the covers became actresses. Did you enter the contest?

  12. Love your blog! Just discovered it, and obviously missed the whole hat discussion by, what? about two and a half years! LOL. Hope you made a doozie for the Preakness.
I have been searching high and low for Vogue 7460 and 7918, so if you are ever in a mood to clear out patterns in general and those in particular, you have a buyer!
I’ve just signed up for the email list, so I look forward to following your sewing adventures.
