One really terrific thing about the DC-Balt-NYC corridor is that I can be in NYC in three hours, Philly in 1.5 and DC in 45 minutes. So, when I read that the Selfish Seamstress was coming to DC, I invited myself and Trena to meet her for dinner. In planning my outfit, I did have a fear that both she and I would appear in the same gray, sleeveless BWOF dress that we both made. Crisis averted!

I am not this freakishly tall. I am in fact 5’6. I’m really probably 5’5 but i like to say I’m 5’6. And, 135 pounds. Actually, my license says I’m 127. And, I haven’t seen 127 since middle school. Well, I haven’t seen 135 since high school either. But, I digress. The Slapdash Sewist and the Selfish Seamstress are just super petite and incredibly cute. I was like Gulliver walking through the DC streets with them.
I hate to break it to you. The Selfish Seamstress is anything but. She’s charming and generous. She even came with gifts! Fabric and labels that I’ll have to photograph when I get back home tonight from Washington. I just never cease to be amazed by this internet sewing community we’re all a part of. What’s really remarkable though is meeting other professional women, in your age group, that are also desperately obsessed with sewing.
How cool was that! The meeting of 3 brilliant seamstresses!!!! I wonder what kind of collaborations and new ideas are going to come from this:) I agree, it’s great to be part of such a great sewing community and to know of (even if you haven’t personally met) such great seamstresses!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a good time! I still need to hem my empire version of that BWOF dress.
What fun!!! Where did you guys go for dinner?
We went to Ella’s Pizza in Penn Quarter. It was delicious!
I see this happening on other blogs in our “sewing community”. Sewists rock! How fun for you all 🙂
Aaaah, not the slightest bit envious!
What a great meeting! They are tiny! I would have towered over them too! LOL
What a great picture of the three of you! Glad you had a good time!
You all look wonderful! What fun!
I like to read about these meet-ups. What a blast!
A three for! you three ladies, are definitely my top favorites to follow, how fun to get together in “real” life! Hope you ladies are as spring inspired as I am, cuz its always to so great to see what you all do. 🙂
Jealous! Hope you had a great time!
Meetings like this would be fun.
That is a great picture.
How fun! Thanks for giving us a peek.
How fun!!!!!
Can I just say how much I love the line beneath the picture: Not person A, B, C, but pattern A, B, C! (And, I’d love to be in NYC right now, also!)
awesome! Yes, I agree that Baltimore is a wonderful location.
Very cute pic!
I am coming to live with you. Clear out your basement because I am moving in. I’m tired of living in a place where no one sews! I am so jealous of you. I’m glad you had a good time and that dress looks great on you! Is Trena wearing a Hot Patterns dress? The fabric is pretty.
Nice to see you three together! I read all of your blogs so it’s cool for me to see that you are all friends IRL.:)
I feel your pain with the height thing. I too am about 5’6″ but am constantly surrounded by people who say I’m so tall. Which is very odd to me since I am the shortest person in my immediate family, my brother is 6’6″! So yea, our height is not so tall;)
How great that you got together! I’m still dying to know what super secret project brings the SS to our Nation’s Capital, but then she’d have to kill us, I guess 😉
that sounds like so much fun. I wish I had that opportunity!
What a great photo of 3 super seamstress bloggers together!
Actually I totally understand your Gulliver comment and I am only 5′ tall. It’s VERY rare and MEMORABLE when someone this height is surrounded by several other women who are actually shorter. It’s mostly because I’m wearing nearly 4″ heels and they’re all also about 5′ or a hair under, and they’re wearing flats. Very weird experience.
And wow the SS bore gifts. Who knew. This morning’s coffee was in one of her haiku mugs. I suspect she’s woven herself into more people’s lives than she’ll ever know!
It’s like a picture of internet sewing royalty, no wonder you all had a good time. I’m never moving to the US if you have to put your weight on your license, how terrifying!
You guys look great! When will you and Trena produce another podcast?
I have the exact same lies on my license.
I love meeting internet friends IRL!
Great picture! I use my recent back surgery as the reason I’m well under 5’4″ and yet my license says 5’4″. Happily, my state doesn’t list the weight lie on drivers licenses.
Thanks for letting us join in on your visit. And like Uta I like the sewist photo caption!
Hear, hear! Internet sewing blogs have made me feel like part of a (rather elite) club, instead of the lone professional-something-else avid sewer at night. 🙂 Thanks for leading the way in the club, by the way.
[…] particular, Cidell of Miss Celie’s Pants has made some outrageously untrue allegations, with a pretty clear intent to tarnish the Selfish Seamstress’s hard earned reputation. She […]
Slander! Nothing but vicious lies. I’ve posted my side of the story on my blog. The truth will come out.
You lucky ducks! I know you guys had a ball!
Two words for ya…..Gel Us! lol. I love the post that came from Selfish Seamstress after reading your post. Too funny. All three of you look amazing to boot.
Oh, it looks like the three of you had a great time!! I have enjoyed reading about your meet up on all three blogs. I’m very jealous!!
So fun!! This is a really cute picture of you gals, too.
